Will skylight windows increase the value of my home?
As a general rule, skylights tend to make homes more energy-efficient. That’s because they allow more natural light in thereby reducing your dependence on artificial light. The less artificial light you use the less you will need to pay on your monthly bill. And an energy-efficient home is always worth more on the market than a home that wastes energy. Exactly how much though, is impossible to say for certain.
How long does it take to install skylight windows?
In most cases, a skylight window can be installed in 1 or 2 days. However, there are circumstances that may cause the process to go a little longer than that. For instance, if the skylight is being installed in a part of the roof that is not easily accessible, or the person doing the installation is not experienced or bad weather intervenes it may take longer to install the skylight window.
Will adding skylight windows negate my roof warranty?
If you’ve recently had a new roof installed it may be under warranty. Some roof warranties accommodate other roof work as long as it is performed by a licensed professional. That said, it is possible a roof warranty might stipulate that no alterations to the installed components are allowed, although that type of wording is fairly rare. The best thing to do is to take out the roof warranty and read it carefully before doing any work on the roof.
Will I need planning permission to install a skylight window?
That will depend almost entirely on the design of the skylight. If it will rise above the established height of the roof once installed you may need planning permission. If the frame/window will rise more than 150mm above the roof line you may need planning permission. If your home or business is located in a conservation area or is a listed building you will almost always need planning permission.
Can you install my skylight window?
We are unable to offer installation services at this time. We can, however, recommend an experienced contractor to you, or you can select one of your own. Keep in mind that all our skylight windows come with detailed installation instructions which you can pass on to the contractor or which you can use to install the skylight yourself. A word of caution though: if you do not have personal experience performing complex roof work we would strongly urge you to hire a professional.
