What Are Dome Rooflights?

Dome roof lights are just like conventional rooflights but sport a domed shape, giving them additional functionality and aesthetic appeal. The primary benefit of choosing a dome rooflight is that they can let in more light into your home or office, while also adding a striking visual element to your property.

Our polycarbonate roof light domes by Brett Martin are sure to impress, as we only work with the best manufacturer to ensure that our products are of the highest quality and durability.

Durable, Lightweight & Impact Resistant Online Dome Rooflights

Forget fragile glass — our polycarbonate roof light domes are built to handle anything the UK weather throws at them:

  • Shatterproof – High-impact resistance makes them perfect for schools, warehouses, and busy households
  • UV-Stabilised – Maintains clarity and colour over time
  • Fire Tested – Compliant with UK building regulations
  • Cost-Effective – Long lifespan and minimal maintenance make them a smart investment

For anyone seeking plastic dome roof lights with longevity and performance, polycarbonate is the clear choice.

How to Choose the Right Online Dome Rooflights for Your Space

Choosing the right dome rooflight depends on your space, ventilation needs, and desired performance. Here’s what to consider:

  • Fixed vs. Opening – Need ventilation? Opt for manual or electric opening domes
  • Glazing Type – Double or triple skin options improve insulation and reduce condensation
  • Shape & Size – Select from square or rectangular domes in multiple standard sizes or request custom dimensions
  • Security Features – Look for Secured by Design certified units for added peace of mind

Frequently Asked Questions

Do dome roof lights open?
Some do and some do not. As such you can assess your needs and determine which style – opening or non-opening – is right for you.
Do dome roof lights leak?
If the roof the dome skylight is being installed on is sound and if the installation is performed in accordance with our detailed instructions by a qualified contractor, they should not leak. And indeed, the vast majority of our customers never report problems with leaking. In those rare instances when leaking does happen it’s almost always because the home or business owner decided to try and install the rooflights themselves, or because the roof was structurally unsound.
Do I need planning permission?
It depends. If any part of the dome rooflight rises above the highest point of the established roof, you may need planning permission. Also, if the dome rooflight rises more than 15cm above the existing plane of the roof you may need planning permission. And finally, if your home or business is a listed building, or it is located in a conservation area, you will probably need planning permission.
Do you offer installation for dome rooflights?
We do not currently offer an installation service for the dome roof lights we sell. However, if you are at a loss trying to find a contractor, we can recommend some with experience installing this type of rooflight. You also have the option of installing the dome roof lights yourself, but we would not recommend this unless you have hands-on experience performing complex roof work. Keep in mind every rooflight comes with comprehensive installation instructions to guide you or your contractor.
How long do dome roof lights last?
As long as they are properly installed, well-maintained and they do not incur damage from falling branches or other sources the dome roof lights you buy today should last 20 – 30 years. A shoddy installation and poor maintenance history will shorten that lifespan considerably.
Do your skylights come with a warranty?
Yes. All of the dome rooflights we sell come with a 10-year guarantee on materials and build quality.
