Frequently Asked Questions
What is meant by polycarbonate?
Polycarbonate indicates the rooflight is fashioned from a type of thermoplastic polymer. Polycarbonates are known for their strength and durability. Some polycarbonates are transparent making this type of material a practical alternative to glass. Polycarbonates are also used in the creation of rooflights because the material is easily worked and molded.
Will you install my polycarbonate rooflights for me?
At this time we do not offer a rooflight installation service. We can, however, recommend a qualified contractor to you, or you can choose one on your own. Keep in mind that all of our polycarbonate rooflights come with comprehensive installation instructions that you can pass on to the contractor of your choice to ensure a proper installation. We would discourage you from attempting to install the rooflight yourself unless you have personal experience performing complex roof work.
Is there someone at Skylights Roof Lanterns who can help me choose the right rooflight?
Of course. If you are having a hard time deciding which of our polycarbonate rooflights is right for your home, get in touch with us by calling 0204 538 3079 during normal business hours, or by writing us with your questions at sales@skylights-rooflanterns.co.uk. Someone will get back to you promptly.
Do I need planning permission?
You may. Typically planning permission is required if the rooflight you want to install will rise above the highest point on the roof, or if the rooflight will protrude more than 15cm above the established roofline. Some of our polycarbonate rooflights will not protrude that far which will save you from having to obtain planning permission. However, if your home is a listed building you will almost certainly need planning permission, and the same applies if your home is located in a conservation area.
Do your polycarbonate rooflights come with a warranty?
They do. Every rooflight we sell comes with a 10-year warranty on materials and build quality. That’s one of the best warranties in the business.
