Frequently Asked Questions
Can you install my new pitched rooflight for me?
As of this writing, we do not offer an installation service for the rooflights we sell. We do, however, include a set of detailed installation instructions with every rooflight. And if you wish, we can recommend a contractor in your area qualified to install this type of rooflight. You also have the option of installing the pitched rooflight yourself but we would recommend you don’t, simply because it could lead to problems down the road.
Why should I choose a pitched rooflight?
You should choose a pitched rooflight for anywhere the roof is pitched more than 15 degrees. That typically includes kitchens, bedrooms, lofts and in some cases, hallways as well. If the part of the roof where you wish to install a rooflight is flat then you’re better off choosing a flat rooflight.
Are pitched rooflights difficult to clean?
It depends on where it is. If it is high up near the top of the roof where it brings light to a loft area it can be tricky to clean the outside. In such a case we would recommend you hire a professional window cleaning company to clean the rooflight once or twice a year. If it is closer to the ground where it can be accessed by a ladder cleaning it should be fairly easy. A lot will depend on whether you can get a solid foothold on the roof near the rooflight.
Is planning permission required?
There are various factors that are taken into account when determining if planning permission is needed. First, if the pitched rooflight will rise more than 15cm above the existing roof line or if any part of it will rise above what is currently the highest point of the roof, you may need planning permission. If your home is a listed building you will almost certainly need planning permission. Likewise, if your home is located in a conservation area.
Do your pitched rooflights come with a warranty?
Every pitched rooflight we sell comes with a full 10-year warranty on materials and build quality. That’s among the best warranties in the business. Because of that, you can install your pitched rooflights with confidence. Just keep in mind that if you decide to install the pitched rooflight yourself it may have a negative impact on the warranty. One more reason to have the rooflight professionally installed.
